Steven Barnett, Ph.D.

Dr. Steven Barnett is founder and president of Banner Consulting & Coaching International, a consulting firm specializing in management, organization change, and coaching.  For more than twenty-five years he has assisted firms throughout the world implement major changes by developing strategies that will improve competitiveness, and implementing changes in the human capital of these organizations to make these strategies work.

His work has encompassed many aspects of organizational improvement, but has particularly focused on the areas of strategy development and implementation, organizational culture change, executive team and organization development, and human resource management. Much of his work has involved helping companies develop their international capabilities, particularly in effectively integrating management practices and organization cultures with differing national cultures.

Prior to founding Banner Consulting & Coaching International he was Regional Director (Asia Pacific) of the Human Capital Group of Watson Wyatt (now Towers Watson) one of the world’s largest human capital consulting firms.  In this role he led a group of approximately 150 consultants specializing in organization transformation and change management consulting, strategic human resource management, and related human resource activities such as communication and reward systems. 

Dr. Barnett has held positions in other major consulting firms as regional vice president (Asia) for consulting operations (Foster Higgins, now William Mercer), vice president for international practice development (AON), senior manager of change management consulting (Andersen Consulting, now Accenture), and director of strategy consulting (ABG Consulting). He has worked with firms in more than twenty countries throughout North and South America, Asia, and Europe.

Dr. Barnett earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Management and International Business and has served as a professor at York University (Toronto, Canada), Konkuk University (Seoul, Korea), and University of Louisville (Panama campus) where he has taught, researched, and published in the areas of business strategy, organization behavior, and international and cross-cultural management.

He was a Special Assistant in the White House Office of Consumer Affairs, served as the President of the Board of Education (Evergreen School District) in San Jose, California, and was a member of the Advisory Board of the Ontario (Canada) Cancer Institute. He was appointed by the US Secretary of Commerce to serve on the Washington State District Export Council, of which he also served as chairman.  Steve is a frequent speaker to business and professional groups, particularly in the areas of aligning organization structure and culture with business strategies.

Dr. Barnett received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, M.S. in Financial Services from the American College, and Ph.D. in Strategic Management and International Business from the University of South Carolina.
